Freiburg are the shock leaders of the Bundesliga after five matchdays. On Sunday, Freiburg will play the final game of the Bundesliga’s sixth round versus Borussia Monchengladbach.

Gladbach have started strongly as well this season. New coach Daniel Farke has the Foals ninth in the league with eight points from 15 points on offer. Gladbach are coming off of a 1-0 home loss to Mainz, however.

The last six matches between these teams have been divided into two wins apiece, two draws, and two losses. Freiburg went unbeaten against Gladbach last season with a 3-3 home draw and a 6-0 win at Borussia Park.

The last two matches played by Freiburg and Gladbach at Stade Europa Park ended as score draws. Based on the strong starts of both clubs this season, a draw at home could be on the cards for Freiburg.

Freiburg coach Christian Streich has three players on the injury list ahead of the weekend. Midfielder Roland Sallai has an eye injury that will likely keep him on the sidelines. Kimberly Ezekwem has a tendon injury and will miss the match. Forward Kevin Schade is a doubt with an abdominal injury.

Farke has a long list of players on the injury list ahead of Sunday’s trip to Freiburg. Ko Itakura will serve a red-card suspension. Defender Nico Elvedi is a major doubt with an ankle injury.

Forward Alassane Plea has a groin strain that will keep him out of action. Defender Stefan Lainer has a thigh injury and is a doubt. Forwards Conor Noss and Torben Musel are both doubts with injuries of their own.

Freiburg competed on Thursday night in the Europa League. Streich’s team claimed a 2-1 home win versus Qarabag. Freiburg are on the rise in German football and continue to improve every season.

Their place at the top of the Bundesliga after five rounds of football shows just how much the club has grown in recent seasons. Freiburg have taken three points from six this season at home. Their only defeat was against Borussia Dortmund 3-1.

Gladbach have drawn back-to-back away matches versus Schalke and Bayern Munich. Both matches ended with both teams scoring.

Freiburg and Gladbach should finish Sunday’s match at the Stade Europa Park level with both teams finding the back of the net. The score draw should see over 1.5 goals at the end of regulation.
