Brest and Strasbourg locked in stalemate
Stade Brestois vs Strasbourg - 04/09/2022

Sunday’s hosts, Brest, will be eager to set the record straight when they return to their Stade Francis-Le Blé to take on Strasbourg following two heavy defeats on the trot which has resulted in Brest conceding a total of 10 goals in these last two league matches in Ligue 1.
A 7-0 thrashing at home by Montpellier was bad enough but Brest then travelled to Rennes where they were dealt a 3-1 loss on the road so needless to say, Brest will be desperate to avoid a third straight defeat on Sunday afternoon.
It’s been a tough start to this Ligue 1 campaign for Brest who have managed to record just one win from their opening five games of this new season, that being a 3-1 win away at Angers but an opening 3-2 defeat away at Lens has seemingly set the tone for the early stages of this campaign.
The bigger picture shows Brest have won just twice in their last nine home games and keeping just one clean sheet, so their immediate priority will be to keep things tight at the back this Sunday.
Onto Strasbourg and they too have struggled in the early weeks of this new French top flight season as the visitors have failed to win any of their opening five games, losing twice and being involved in three draws.
Losses to Monaco and Auxerre have outweighed the three stalemates with Nice, Reims and Nantes, and having gathered just three points from the possible 15 on offer overall, Strasbourg have joined their hosts, Brest, in the bottom four of the Ligue 1 standings, albeit early stages of course.
However, it’s now six league matches without a win for Strasbourg as they finished last season being on the end of a heavy 4-0 defeat away from home at Marseille, while the bigger picture shows Strasbourg have managed to muster just two wins out of their last 10 matches overall in Ligue 1.
Results away from home have been even worse for the visitors as Strasbourg have managed to register just one win in their last nine outings on the road and this sequence of results also include three defeats and five draws as well.
To sum up, both Brest and Strasbourg would be happy to settle for a point apiece if they cannot win the game, so a draw looks to be on the cards here.
