Troyes to hold their own against Rennes

Troyes play host to Rennes at the Stade de l’Aube on Sunday afternoon with the hosts looking to capture a third league win on the trot in the French top flight after having to endure a shaky start to the new Ligue 1 season.
Three defeats on the trot to start their new Ligue 1 campaign was certainly not in Troyes’ script before they kicked a ball in ager but defeats to Montpellier, Toulouse and Lyon handed the hosts a tough start to the French top flight season.
Nevertheless, Troyes have since managed to bounce back by recording back to back wins against Angers and Monaco by way of 3-1 and 4-2 victories, the latter being a particularly impressive win away from home.
Results and form at home have been steady if unspectacular but have resulted in Troyes losing just three out of their last 10 games on home soil whilst also picking up wins against Nantes, Reims and Lille towards the end of last season, along with holding Rennes to draws in each of their last two meetings at the Stade de l’Aube.
Onto Rennes and the visitors have also made a mixed start to this new Ligue 1 campaign as they’ve suffered losses against Lorient and Lens but have picked up welcome wins in the shape of victories over Ajaccio and Brest to counter the defeats.
A 1-1 draw away from home at Monaco was also a result worthy of note but it’s worth bearing in mind that both of Rennes’ wins to date this term were recorded on home soil at their Roazhon Park.
Rennes have struggled to pick up results away from home as well though as the visitors have failed to win any of their last five games on their travels, incurring defeats at Strasbourg, Nantes and this season, a surprise loss at Lens.
Indeed, the bigger picture shows Rennes have managed to capture just three wins out of their last 13 games on the road which came in the shape of wins at Montpellier, Lyon and Reims, but these were achieved towards the end of last season.
In addition, Rennes have failed to keep a clean sheet in each of their last 13 away games as well, and this may prove to be pivotal in this upcoming clash at Troyes on Sunday afternoon as Troyes hold on for a point here.
