Sunday brings us a late morning clash in the Italian top flight between hosts, Cremonese, and their visitors, Sassuolo, when the two teams meet at the Stadio Giovanni Zini, with the hosts desperately looking to halt their worrying losing start to this new Serie A campaign.
Cremonese have made the worst possible start to this season as they’ve been handed four defeats on the trot, losing to Fiorentina, Roma, Torino and Inter Milan respectively.
And although a new season is supposed to bring fresh optimism, Cremonese’s return to the Italian top flight has been a disastrous one to date.
Sunday’s hosts last appeared in Serie A way back in 1996 and much has changed since then.
But the hosts know they must get some points on the board sooner rather than later, or they face an extremely tough battle against possible relegation.
It’s been some time since Cremonese faced Sassuolo in a competitive match but their last meeting was a friendly last September which Cremonese won 2-0 away.
Cremonese have no injury worries to deal with which perhaps is just as well!
Sassuolof were also dealt an opening day defeat at the start of this new Serie A season as they were handed a heavy 3-0 defeat away from home at Juventus which was possibly one of the worst fixtures a team could get as their opening game.
However, Sassuolo have since staged something of a recovery.
The visitors have put together a stubborn looking three-match unbeaten sequence which includes a 1-0 home win against Lecce and then points picked up in draws with Spezia and AC Milan, the latter being a 0-0 draw at home.
The bigger picture shows Sassuolo have lost just two of their last seven games in the Italian top flight overall and this includes a 1-1 draw with Udinese and a 3-1 win away at Bologna, both of which were gained towards the end of last season’s campaign.
Sassuolo have recorded just one win from their last seven outings on the road in Serie A but Sunday morning’s encounter at rock bottom Cremonese provides Sassuolo with the perfect opportunity to improve their results away from home.
The visitors will be missing defender Muldur and midfielder Traore through injuries.
Cremonese look to be struggling already and Sassuolo could extend their woes on Sunday morning.
