Leeds to return to winning ways against Everton
4224

Tuesday night brings us midweek action from the Premier League and features this upcoming clash between Leeds United and Everton at Elland Road with the hosts seeking a swift return to winning ways following their 1-0 defeat away from home at Brighton on the weekend.

Leeds United had previously started their new Premier League campaign in fine form as the Yorkshire club had picked up seven points from the possible nine on offer, thanks to wins against Wolves and Chelsea in impressive 2-1 and 3-0 victories, along with gaining a point from a 2-2 draw away at Southampton.

Leeds manager, Jesse Marsch, will be hoping that the recent result at Brighton was just a blip in an otherwise onward improvements for the hosts.

The bigger picture shows, Leeds have lost just four out of their last 14 matches in the Premier League.

Results on home soil at Elland Road have also improved under Marsch as the Whites have lost just twice in their previous seven games.

The hosts have also lost just two of their last seven meetings against Everton in all competitions.

The pair of Luke Ayling and Junior Firpo are expected back in training next week.

But this game is too soon for them, while defender Cooper is also set to miss out with a calf injury. Striker, Bamford, is still rated doubtful for this clash.

Everton picked up a useful point in a 1-1 draw away from home at Brentford which followed a previous 1-1 draw at home with new-boys, Nottingham Forest.

But The Toffees are still in search of their first win of this Premier League season.

Indeed, it’s now five matches without a win for Frank Lampard’s side and just one win from their last eight matches for the merseyside visitors who once again find themselves in familiar territory, sitting third from bottom in the albeit early standings of the top flight.

Early season defeats to Chelsea and Aston Villa have seemingly set the tone for the early stages of this new season for Everton whose fans must be praying that forward, Anthony Gordon, doesn’t leave for Chelsea in the current transfer window.

However, if overall results have been disappointing for Everton, then The Toffees’ results on the road have been nothing short of a disaster; the visitors have managed to muster just one win on the road from their last 19 outings on their travels, and have suffered a total of 14 defeats within this period as well.

To make matters worse, Everton have a host of first-team personnel missing through injuries; defenders, Mina and Godfrey, midfielders, Doucoure and Townsend, and forward Calvert-Lewin are all expected to be absent while defender Holgate and midfielder Gomes are doubtful to make the trip.

Having also kept just one clean sheet in these last 19 away games, Everton look to have their work cut out at Elland Road on Tuesday night against a Leeds side who are keen to set the record straight in front of their roaring fans - Leeds win here.
