AC Milan’s defence of the Serie A title has started extremely well with the champions of Italy sitting in the top two after three games in the league with them now heading on the road to meet with the struggling Sassuolo for game four.

Much of Milan’s table-topping status isn’t just because of their solid form shown so far, but also because of the bad starts from rivals Inter Milan and Juventus.

The points tally is barely noticeable between the giants of Serie A right now, but Milan are unbeaten, while Juventus have drawn twice, just as Inter lost last time out to Lazio.

Milan defeated Udinese as they kicked off their Serie A defence with a 4-2 victory at San Siro. They did go a goal down after two minutes that day, but with Theo Hernandez's penalty and an effort from Ante Rebic before half time, Milan did manage to win the game by four goals as Rebic and Brahim Diaz netted in the second half.

Stefano Pioli’s men drew 1-1 in Bergamo a game later, as Ismael Bennacer's equaliser saw them get a point against Atalanta.

On the other hand, with seven shots on target that day and 60% of the ball, Milan were much the better side against Atalanta.

Bologna were up next for the Italian champions, as Rafael Leao’s goal and an Oliver Giroud finish was enough to take all three points from the San Siro in a comfortable victory for Milan. Such results keep them right in there in the race for the Scudetto early on in the 2022/23 season.

Sassuolo have lost one game, won another and got all three points in the game against Lecce, following on from Domenico Berardi's exceptional strike in the game in what will surely go down as one of the goals of the season.

A 2-2 draw with Spezia last time out saw Sassuolo go a goal down and come back to draw 2-2 in the end, as David Frattesi and Andrea Pinamonti scored a goal each in that game.

A 3-0 loss to Juventus does keep Sassuolo down in 11th after three games, as they’ve started the season practically the exact same as they did in 2021/22.

Milan are the favourites to win here and it does look like they’ll be right in there in a title race for the third season in a row. Forebet predicts a win for Milan and for the game to see under 2.5 goals in the game.
