Atalanta to edge Hellas Verona in Serie A

Four points from six have been picked up by Atalanta to start the new Serie A season. La Dea are coming off of a solid 1-1 draw at home to AC Milan.

Now, Gian Piero Gasperini takes Atalanta up against Hellas Verona away at the Bentegodi. Hellas Verona have started the season with just one point from six on offer.

Hellas lost 5-2 at home to Napoli on matchday No. 1 before drawing 1-1 away to Bologna. Atalanta won 2-0 at Sampdoria before last weekend’s draw with AC Milan.

The last six matches between these teams have been rather evenly matches. Atalanta have just shaded the six head-to-head matches with 3W-1D-2L versus Hellas Verona.

Last season, the away team won both Serie A fixture by identical 2-1 scorelines. The 2021-22 season ended with Atlanta finishing eighth in Serie A. It was their first finish outside the top four in four seasons.

The Bergamo club completely missed out on Europe. Gasperini will focus getting the team back in the top four without any European matches to play this term.

Hellas Verona were a surprise package in 2021-22 under coach Igor Tudor. The Gialloblu finished ninth in the table after a horrid start under Eusebio Di Francesco. Tudor’s success at Hellas Verona led to him becoming Marseille’s coach for this season. Gabriele Cioffi took the reins of Hellas in July.

Atalanta have scored three goals this season with those goals spread to three different players. Forwards Ruslan Malinovsky, Rafael Toloi, and Ademola Lookman have bagged Atalanta’s scores this season.

Verona have also scored three times this season. Thomas Henry has bagged two of the team’s three goals. Kevin Lasagna scored the other for the Gialloblu.

Not only did Hellas Verona lose their coach in the summer but they lost their top scorer from last term, Giovanni Simeone. The son of Atletico Madrid coach, Diego, had 17 goals last season, but was sold to Napoli.

Gasperini has four players on the injury list as Bert Djimsiti, Marco Carnesecchi, and Davide Zappacosta are all ruled out of action. Ederson Jose could be fit in time for Sunday’s trip to the Bentegodi.

Hellas Verona coach Cioffi also has four players on the injury list. Marco Faraoni, Roberto Piccoli, and Federico Ceccherini are all ruled out through injury, while Pawel Dawidowicz could still make the team.

Atalanta have started the new season well and should post win against Hellas Verona away. This game should see both teams score, which has occurred in both of Hellas Verona’s games this season.
