Vallecano to Edge Past Mallorca to Keep up Their Excellent Start

Rayo Vallecano  will be aiming to keep up their excellent start to the season this weekend as they play hosts to RCD Mallorca at the Estadio de Vallecas with the Madrid side sitting sixth right now in La Liga.

Just like last campaign, Vallecano are looking great in the opening few games of the season.

In 2021/22, the club would find themselves battling in the European spots right up until the new year where they eventually fell off a cliff and finished mid-table. Now, however, things seem to be heading in a similar direction after two games.

Vallecano kicked things off with the trip to the Camp Nou, where besides facing off with the champions, it doesn’t get much trickier.

The Madrid side kept Robert Lewandowski quiet throughout the game, restricting the club to six shots on target with none of them hitting the back of the net in a 0-0 draw.

Vallecano would have just two shots of their own, see just 32% of the ball, but to kick off their campaign with this result away to Barcelona is something to shout about.

Up next for Andoni Iraola's men was the trip to Espanyol, where a goal each from Isa Palazon and Pathe Ciss was enough to see them snatch all three points after playing much of the game with 10 men.

Former Newcastle United man, Florian Lejeune received his marching orders after 16 minutes, and now is unavailable for this game.

Throw into account the commendable 1-1 draw away to Manchester United at Old Trafford in preseason, and Vallecano have now gone three games unbeaten and let in just one goal in this time.

As for Mallorca, their 0-0 draw away to Athletic Club saw just four shots on target combined across the game, as Javier Aguirre's men barely looked like threatening the home side all game that day.

Real Betis at home were up next for Mallorca, and despite Vedat Muriqi scoring an equaliser in the second half, Borja Iglesias netted late on in the second 45 to steal all three points away from Mallorca. The club now sits winless and down in 14th after two games.

Forebet predicts a win for the home side here. The club have looked very solid on the defensive front and just like last season, they look promising in the early stages of a new La Liga campaign.

Forebet predicts Vallecano to get all three points and see over 2.5 goals
