PSG set for high-scoring victory over Monaco

Paris Saint-Germain will be looking to maintain their 100% record in Ligue 1 when they welcome AS Monaco to the Parc des Princes on Sunday night.

With three games in the books, PSG are the only team with nine points. As a result, they find themselves two points clear at the top of the table.

Having taken four points from a possible nine this season, Monaco sit eleventh – five points behind PSG. Can the Monegasques close the gap this weekend?

PSG head into Matchday 4 on the back of three high-scoring wins, having dispatched Clermont Foot (0-5), Montpellier (5-2) and Lille (1-7).

That means the defending champions have scored 17 goals in three games (5.7 goals per game) while conceding just three goals.

Neymar has bagged five goals and six assists across the opening three rounds, while Kylian Mbappe has netted four goals. Lionel Messi has contributed three goals and two assists.

Not only have PSG avoided defeat in each of their last 20 home league games, but they have also avoided defeat in 29 of their previous 32 Ligue 1 outings.

As for Monaco, they have registered one win, one draw and one loss this term – meaning they find themselves in the bottom half of the table.

After beating Strasbourg, they drew with Rennes before suffering a heavy 4-1 defeat to Lens last weekend.

Lens scored twice in the first half and twice in the second half to humiliate Monaco on home soil. To make matters worse, Vanderson was shown a red card.

Monaco can take confidence from the fact that they are currently enjoying a six-game unbeaten streak in away Ligue 1 games. That said, PSG are likely to dominate proceedings on Sunday.

Head-to-head: Monaco have only managed to win three of their previous 11 Ligue 1 encounters with PSG, suffering six defeats in the process.

Eight of the past ten league meetings between PSG and Monaco have produced over 2.5 goals, meaning we should see plenty of action on Sunday.

Team news: PSG have two injury absentees at the moment, with Timothee Pembele and Julian Draxler expected to miss Sunday’s clash.

Monaco will be without the injured Myron Boadu for their trip to the capital, while Vanderson is suspended following his red card last time out.

If the recent meetings between these two sides are anything to go by, PSG should secure a high-scoring win this weekend.

Forebet predicts that PSG and Monaco will combine for over 3.5 goals at the Parc des Princes. However, PSG are expected to outscore the visitors.
