Fiorentina and Napoli braced for Serie A showdown

On Sunday night, Fiorentina and Napoli will both be hoping to extend their unbeaten starts to the Serie A season when they face off in Florence.

After two games, Napoli find themselves atop the Serie A table following back-to-back wins. Inter Milan and Roma are the only other side to have collected maximum points.

As for Fiorentina, they occupy seventh place after picking up a win and a draw. Consequently, they sit two points behind Napoli ahead of Sunday’s showdown.

Fiorentina kicked off their campaign with a 3-2 victory over Cremonese. Giacomo Bonaventura and Luke Jovic scored in the first half before Rolando Mandragora netted a 95th-monit winner.

It is worth noting that Fiorentina enjoyed 75% possession and racked up 28 shots on the opening weekend.

Despite registering 64% possession and 19 shots last time out, Fiorentina were held to goalless draw by Empoli. Believe it or not, they only managed two attempts on target.

Thanks to a solid end to the previous campaign, Fiorentina have only lost one of their last nine home games in Serie A. Can they avoid defeat on Sunday?

Meanwhile, Napoli hammered Verona 5-2 on the opening weekend – chalking up 67% possession and 25 shots along the way.

Last time out, they crushed Monza 4-0. Khvicha Kvaratskhelia bagged a brace, while Victor Osimhen scored for the second game running.

Having won their final four games last season, Napoli head into Matchday 3 on a six-game winning streak in Serie A.

Better still, Napoli have won each of their past four Serie A games by 3+ goals. Needless to say, that is not good news for Fiorentina.

Head-to-head: Fiorentina have only managed to win four of their previous 24 Serie A meetings with Napoli.

More recently, Napoli have won three of their past four league encounters with Fiorentina – netting a combined total of 12 goals.

Team news: Fiorentina currently have three players sidelined through injury – Gaetano Castrovilli, Igor and Szymon Zurkowski.

On the flip side, Napoli will be without midfielder Diego Demme on Sunday as he continues to recover from a foot injury.

Although Fiorentina have made a promising start to the season, Napoli are expected to extend their winning streak to seven games this weekend.

Forebet predicts that Napoli will claim all three points on Sunday, scoring over 1.5 goals on their way to victory.
