Malmo to punch ticket to UEFA Europa League group stage

Malmo head to Turkey to face Sivasspor on Thursday night in the second leg of their UEFA Europa League playoff tie.
The Swedes take a 3-1 lead to Turkey and have one foot in the group stage of the competition. The Sky Blues claimed a first leg win thanks to goals from Moustafa Zeidan, Anders Christiansen, and Niklas Moisander. Sivasspor’s Leke James kept his side in the game with a goal.
Now, Sivasspor need two goals without conceding to force extra-time. It is a difficult task for the Turkish team to achieve.
The task of overturning Malmo’s lead will be made harder by Sivasspor’s terrible start to the new campaign. The Reds are winless in four straight matches in all competitions.
Sivasspor are coming off of a 1-1 draw at the weekend versus Alanyaspor in the Turkish Super Lig. The Reds have been outscored 8-3 in all competitions this season.
Malmo started their European journey in the Champions League qualifying rounds. After elimination by Zalgris Vilnius in the second qualifying round, Malmo moved to the Europa League, where they have found success.
The Sky Blues are unbeaten in their last three European games claiming two wins and a draw. Since joining the Europa League qualifying stages, Malmo have outscored opponents 8-3 in three matches.
Malmo put Andreas Georgson in place as manager at the end of July after failing to progress in the Champions League. He has been in charge of all three Malmo Europa League games, winning twice and drawing once.
Georgson led Malmo to a 1-1 draw at the weekend with Mjallby. The manager will be without four players due to injuries. Soren Rieks is out with a foot problem and Martin Olsson is also suffering from a foot issue which will keep him out of action.
Mahame Siby has a hip injury and will miss the remainder of the season. Midfielder Oscar Lewicki is out until September with a thigh problem. Meanwhile, striker Ola Toivonen is available despite being suspended in the Allsvenskan.
Sivasspor manager Riza Calimbay uses a defensive 4-1-4-1 formation, which is one reason the team has scored so few goals this term. Just one player is on the injury list as Samba Camara will likely miss out.
Malmo cruised to a 3-1 win in the first leg and the Sky Blues should gain another victory. The Swedes could cruise once more with this game finishing 3-0 in Malmo’s favour, allowing them to reach the Europa League group stage.
