Angers have drawn their two opening matches of the 2022-22 Ligue 1 campaign. With two points from six on offer, the Black and White welcome Brest to the Raymond Kopa Stadium on Sunday.

Brest are coming off of a matchday No. 2 draw with Marseille 1-1. It was an unlikely result for Brest to pick up a point from a Champions League qualification contender.

Angers have edged Brest in the teams’ last six head-to-head matches. The Black and White have a record of 3W-2D-1L versus Brest in all competitions. Last season, Angers picked up a 1-1 draw at Brest before winning at the Raymond Kopa Stadium 1-0.

In 2021-22, Angers finished 14th in the table with 41 points from 38 games. During the final third of the season, Angers really fell off of the rails. Just two of their last six games ended as wins. Angers were nine points above the relegation zone.

Brest ended the campaign in midtable. The Pirates had 48 points from 38 games in 2021-22. However, Brest lost their final three games of the season, and their poor form has carried over into this campaign.

Manager Michel Der Zakarian has two injuries to worry about before kick off on Sunday. Defender Noah Fadiga is ruled out until September with an ankle injury. Forward Steve Mounie is a major doubt to play with a heel injury.

Angers coach Gerard Baticle has two players on the injury list as well. Midfielder Ulrick Eneme-Ella is ruled out until September with a knee injury. Forward Abdallah Sima is a doubt following a hamstring strain.

The Black and White have scored just two goals this season with Lois Diony and Amine Salama getting the goals. Six different players have been yellow carded for Angers after two league matches.

Brest have also shared the wealth amongst goal scorers. The Pirates have had three different goal scorers with Haris Belkebla, Pierre Lees-Melou, and Romain del Castillo getting on the score sheet for Brest.

Algerian midfielder Youcef Belaili has already received two yellow cards after two matches. Neither of these sides has scored many goals this season. Angers had under 2.5 goals in six of their last seven matches against Brest in all competitions.

Sunday’s match should end in a stalemate with neither side able to get the goals needed to win. Sticking with a trend of under 2.5 goals, Angers and Brest are likely to draw 1-1.
