Borussia Dortmund seeking fourth straight win against Werder Bremen

Borussia Dortmund are joint league leaders in the Bundesliga after two matchdays. On Saturday, the Yellow and Black will go for their third straight win to stay at the top of the table in the Bundesliga.

Werder Bremen, freshly promoted from last season’s Bundesliga 2, are aiming to defeat Borussia Dortmund for the first time in four attempts. Bremen have a poor record against Borussia Dortmund with 1W-2D-3L coming in their last six meetings.

Borussia Dortmund started the new season with a 1-0 win against Bayer Leverkusen before defeating Freiburg 3-1 on matchday No. 2.

Werder Bremen have drawn their first two games of the new campaign. A matchday 1 draw with Wolfsburg 2-2 was followed by a 2-2 stalemate with Stuttgart.

Borussia Dortmund have scored at least two goals in their last six matches against Werder Bremen in all competitions. This doesn’t bode well for Werder Bremen as they have conceded at least two goals in each of their Bundesliga games this season.

The home team has won 33% of matches in the Bundesliga this season. Of the matches played leading up to matchday No. 3, 72% of games have finished with over 2.5 goals scored.

Dortmund coach Edin Terzic has a few injuries to contend with ahead of Bremen’s arrival at Signal Iduna Park on Saturday. Striker Karim Adeyemi is nursing a toe injury and will miss the rest of August.

Midfielder Tom Rothe has a hip issue that will see him out of action until September. Niklas Sule is also ruled out with injury until September, while Sebastien Haller is undergoing treatment for testicular cancer.

Bremen coach, Ole Werner, has just one player nursing an injury prior to the game’s kick off on Saturday. Midfielder Jean-Manuel Mbom has an Achilles tendon problem that will keep him out of the game.

The Green and White are led in goals by Niclas Fullkrug with two goals. He should start in attack once more with the chance to score in three consecutive matches.

Dortmund’s goals have been spread around the team with four scores coming from four different players. Anthony Modeste was recently signed from Koln as a replacement for Haller. He could start in attack with Adeyemi now sidelined.

Terzic has favoured a 4-2-3-1 formation with Jude Bellingham and Mahmoud Dahoud playing as the double pivot in front of the defence. Terzic is attempting to make Dortmund a better defensive team than they have been in recent seasons.

So far, Dortmund have conceded one goal in two games. On Saturday, the Yellow and Black are likely to concede once more in a thriller with Bremen.

Borussia Dortmund should win at full-time with over 2.5 goals and both teams finding the back of the net.
