Man Utd expected to up their game when Liverpool visit Old Trafford

Fresh from suffering an embarrassing 4-0 thrashing at the hands of Brentford, Manchester United will be hoping to avoid another humiliation when they host Liverpool at Old Trafford on Monday night.

As we head into Matchday 3, the Red Devils find themselves rock bottom of the Premier League table without a single point to their name.

That said, Liverpool sit twelfth after registering back-to-back draws. Can Jurgen Klopp’s side kick-start their campaign and heap more misery on their old rivals?

Man Utd suffered a 2-1 defeat to Brighton on the opening weekend, despite racking up 17 shots and 63% possession on home soil.

Last time out, Erik ten Hag’s team endured a 4-0 crushing against Brentford – conceding all four goals before half-time. Funnily enough, they notched 15 shots and 67% possession.

Due to a disappointing end to the previous campaign, the Red Devils head into Matchday 3 on a run of one victory in eight Premier League games.

It is worth noting, however, that Man Utd have only lost one of their past ten home games in the Premier League. Can they frustrate Liverpool at Old Trafford?

Meanwhile, Liverpool came from behind on two occasions to rescue a 2-2 draw against Fulham on the opening weekend.

Klopp’s side were also forced to come from behind against Crystal Palace at Anfield on Monday, drawing 1-1 with the Eagles – despite racking up 73% possession and 24 shots.

Still, it is worth pointing out that Liverpool have avoided defeat in each of their previous 21 Premier League encounters.

The Merseysiders have also lost just one of their past 29 league games, so they will be confident of getting something from Monday’s clash.

Head-to-head: The last three Premier League meetings between these two sides have ended 2-4, 0-5 and 4-0 in favour of Liverpool.

That said, six of the previous 12 Premier League meetings between Man Utd and Liverpool have ended in a draw.

Team news: Manchester United will be without the injured duo of Anthony Martial and Victor Lindelof on Monday.

Liverpool’s lengthy injury list includes Thiago, Diogo Jota, Curtis Jones, Joel Matip and Ibrahima Konate. On top of that, Darwin Nunez is suspended after seeing red last time out.

Although United have made a woeful start to the season, they are expected to rise to the occasion when Liverpool visit Old Trafford.

Forebet predicts that Manchester United and Liverpool will play out a low-scoring draw on Monday, with both teams netting under 1.5 goals.
