Inter to Welcome Newly-Promoted Lecce Back to Serie A With a Defeat
US Lecce vs Inter Milano - 13/08/2022
3483
Inter Milan will be desperate to get off to the perfect start when they travel to the Stadio Via del Mare on the opening weekend to meet with Lecce as Simeone Inzaghi's men lost their title to rivals AC Milan last season.
Heading into the new seasons, Inter have certainly made the brighter moves than their Milan rivals. Joaquin Correa and Henrikh Mkhitaryan are two names coming into the forward line for Inter this season, and Robin Gosens in midfield and Andre Onana in goal add more firepower for the Serie A giants.
However, with the resigning of Serie A winner, Romelu Lukaku, Inter are now the clear favourites to win Serie A in the eyes of many.
In the Belgian's first season with the club, he scored 23 goals from 36 games, before registering 24 in 36 outings the season after that saw Inter comfortably win the title.
Simply put, if the former Chelsea man can regain his form shown in previous spells in Italy, there may be nothing stopping him challenging for the top scorer award and the title.
It was a painful two points that separated Inter from Milan in the last season. Both clubs lost four times, with Inter registering the most goals in the season with 84 from 38 games.
Their defensive record was one goal weaker with 32 goals let in, while they also won one less game with 25 from 38 fixtures.
Preseason for the Milan side, however, was pretty poor. They did manage to beat Lugano 4-1 in their first game of the summer, but a loss to Lens and most recently Villarreal last weekend meant they won one of their five games. Further winless games in preseason saw them draw 2-2 with Ligue 1 sides, Monaco and Lyon.
Lecce have the tough test of now returning to Serie A for the first time in two seasons and playing against the favourites.
They were relegated with just 35 points from 38 games two seasons back, letting in a torrid 85 goals.
Worse yet for their confidence, Lecce lost to Cittadella in the Coppa Italia last time out on home soil. Gabriel Strefezza and Lorenzo Colombo both scored a goal each in the 3-2 loss, but it was a poor performance in general from Lecce.
Forebet predicts Inter will win here and get their season off to the perfect start. Forebet also expects the game to see over 2.5 goals.
