Liverpool will be looking to kick-start their 2022/23 Premier League campaign when they welcome Crystal Palace to Anfield on Monday night.
On the opening weekend, Jurgen Klopp’s side were held to a 2-2 draw by Fulham at Craven Cottage – despite dominating large spells of the game.
Meanwhile, Crystal Palace suffered a 2-0 home defeat to Arsenal in their first game of the season. Can they avoid another humiliation at the hands of the Reds?
Liverpool came from behind on two occasions to rescue a draw against Fulham. Aleksandar Mitrovic bagged a brace, but goals from Darwin Nunez and Mohamed Salah saw Klopp’s side snatch a point.
The Merseysiders racked up 67% possession and 11 shots last time out. However, they failed to secure the win.
Liverpool lost just two of their 38 Premier League games last season, finishing a solitary point behind Manchester City. They also achieved the joint-best defensive record in the division.
Not only have Klopp’s side avoided defeat in each of their last 20 league outings, but they have also avoided defeat in 27 of their previous 28.
On the flip side, Crystal Palace notched 57% possession and ten shots last time out – only to lose 2-0 to Arsenal.
Despite showing glimpses of promise against the Gunners, the Eagles failed to recover from Gabriel Martinelli’s first-half striker before Marc Guehi scored a late own goal.
Patrick Vieira’s men won just 11 of their 38 Premier League games last season. As a result, they finished twelfth – 44 points behind second-place Liverpool.
On a brighter note, Palace were the only team in the bottom 12 to finish the previous campaign with a positive goal difference.
Head-to-head: Liverpool have won each of their previous ten Premier League meetings with Crystal Palace, keeping six clean sheets in that time.
It is also worth noting that Liverpool have scored over 2.5 goals in five of their past ten victories over the Eagles.
Team news: Liverpool have multiple injury absentees at the moment, including Ibrahima Konate, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Curits Jones, and Thiago Alcantara.
Crystal Palace will be without the injured quartet of Jack Butland, James McArthur, Michael Olise and James Tomkins on Monday.
If the recent meetings between Liverpool and Palace are anything to go by, the Reds should secure a high-scoring victory at Anfield.
Forebet predicts that Liverpool will score over 2.5 goals and keep a clean sheet en route to dispatching the Eagles.
