Fulham to prove a point at Wolves

Wolves will welcome yo-yo club Fulham to Molineux when the two sides meet in the west midlands for Saturday afternoon’s clash in the Premier League with the hosts eager to put an increasingly worrying winless stretch of games to a halt in the top flight.

Following last Saturday’s disappointing 2-1 opening day defeat away from home at Elland Road against Leeds United, Wolves have now failed to win any of their last eight top flight matches which also includes no fewer than six defeats.

Despite a fairly satisfactory mid-table finish of 10th place last term, Wolves manager, Bruno Lage, will be under increasing pressure for his side to push on this season but having suffered losses on home turf to Brighton and Manchester City along with being held to a 1-1 draw by Norwich City in the last few weeks of last season, the hosts know they can ill afford another slow start to this campaign.

In the shape of visitors, Fulham, Wolves will fancy their chances against the newcomers on Saturday but the hosts are expected to be missing striker and last season’s club top scorer, Jimenez, along with fellow forward Chiquinho and defender Semedo for this clash.

Jimenez was Wolves’s leading goalscorer last term but even he only netted on six occasions as the west midlands club continued to struggle in front of goal following  the departure of former striker, Diogo Jota, to Liverpool.

Visitors, Fulham, will have been boosted by their well deserved point against Liverpool in their season-opener last weekend when they held The Reds to a 2-2 draw at Craven Cottage to hand the London club a promising return to the Premier League.

Once again it was Fulham’s talisman up front, Aleksandar Mitrovic, who bagged a brace for Fulham last week on the back of his amazing 43-goal tally in the Championship last term which was pivotal to Fulham’s promotion in their previous campaign.

Despite that draw though, it’s now a sequence of 11 top flight games without a win for The Cottagers and they too will be eager to make an early impression in these first few weeks of this new Premier League season as they desperately seek to hold onto their top flight status this time around.

Fulham look set to be without the services of midfield duo Harry Wilson and Nathaniel Chalobah but otherwise manager, Marco Silva, has no further injury concerns at this stage, and given the early goalscoring form of Mitrovic and creative midfielder, Tom Cairney, the visitors stand a decent chance of taking something from this trip to Molineux.

Wolves found goals hard to come by last season while Fulham could take advantage here with striker Mitrovic in early form.
