Norwich Expected to Win on Opening Day as Cardiff Fall to the Championship Serial Winners
2347

After relegation back into the Championship once more, Norwich City will travel to South Wales on the opening day where a Cardiff City side in desperate need of winning the fans back awaits them.

It was a dreadful season for Cardiff last time out and despite never really being sucked deep into a relegation battle because of the torrid form of the bottom four, they still only finished four places above the unthinkable and subsequently a stunning 14 points behind the top 10 as well.

The Bluebirds ended up with 15 wins from the 46 games and although this was only two fewer than Coventry City who finished six places above them, Cardiff also lost a stunning 23 games which meant they lost exactly 50% of their fixtures in the league last time out.

Cardiff also saw managers come and go last season, and with Steve Morison in charge, they will need to improve on their 68 goals conceded from the last campaign with 50 goals scored themselves too.

The main problem for the Welsh side was their inconsistencies, as they failed to win more than three games on the bounce throughout the entire 2021/22 Championship season.

What's more, with an almighty 22-point gap on the playoffs last season, Morison is going to be in desperate need to overturn things here, otherwise he could be in line to be one of the first managers let go in the league this campaign.

They did, however, get the fans back on board in preseason with four wins from their five games as the likes of Cambridge United, Newport County, Cheltenham Town and Swindon Town were all defeated. Shrewsbury Town also met with them, where a 0-0 draw was played out.

In reality, however, Cardiff should have easily beat these sides and they still managed to let in five goals in their five games and kept just two clean sheets.

Norwich got their customary relegation back into the Championship after just one season last time out, and in truth, they were all but down and out after a handful of games in the Premier League.

In fact, they were not far off registering one of the worst campaigns ever with a 22-point tally and only five wins from the 38 scheduled league games.

Dean Smith is a master of the Championship, however, and the Canaries are in solid hands to get yet another promotion back into the big time. They did win the title last time out with 97 points coming in after winning 29 of the 46 games.

Forebet predicts Norwich to start with another win and for this game to see over 2.5 goals.
