Club Brugge to Storm to Victory Against Genk on Opening Day in Belgium
Club Brugge vs Racing Genk - 24/07/2022
2222
It's the opening day in the Belgian Pro League this weekend as Club Brugge will be aiming to defend their title with an opening day mouthwatering clash at the Jan Breydel Stadium against Genk.
The victory for the Belgian giants in their title pursuit last season does also now mean Brugge have won the last five league titles in a row as they look to close in on the all-time record of Anderlecht.
Brugge entered the championship round of the Belgian Pro League last time out looking to defend their title, and from their six games spread across fixtures with Union Saint-Gilloise, Anderlecht, and Antwerp, they managed to win four times and draw only twice while letting in just two goals and scoring eight.
On the other hand, despite them winning the league, they finished the regular season with 21 wins from 34 games compared to the 24 victories from 34 games for the regular season leaders, Union. Brugge did lose only four times in the regular season, however, scoring a fantastic 72 goals and letting in only 37.
The Belgian Pro League champions met with Belgian Cup winners Gent last weekend in the opening game of the new season in the Belgian Super Cup.
Not much separated either side that day, and in a game where Brugge were expected to win relatively comfortably, they were made to work for the trophy.
Andreas Skov Olsen scored for Brugge that day, as the Dane netted the game's only goal in the first half of action.
Brugge also saw 57% of the ball that day, but with just two shots on target, the club have a bit to work on in this game if they are to improve on their performance.
Genk ended up in the Conference League Play-off Group in Belgium last year, but they were pipped to the top spot by Gent by six points.
In the regular season, the club finished in an underwhelming eight position, as they lost 13 times and won only 15 of the 34 scheduled games
Cyle Larin formerly of Besiktas will also be joining the Brugge squad this season as he meets fellow Canadian Tajon Buchanan in the Belgian Pro League.
Larin scored only eight goals from 38 games last season as Besiktas looked to defend their title, but the season prior, Canada's all-time top scorer netted 23 goals from 45 goals as Besiktas won the Super Lig.
With great business and a win already in 2022/23, Forebet predicts over 2.5 goals and for Brugge to win.
