Karlsruher to sneak narrow victory over Magdeburg
Karlsruher SC vs Magdeburg - 24/07/2022
4447
The German 2 Bundesliga season started last weekend with both Karlsruher and Magdeburg being handed defeats on the opening day of the new German second tier season, so both sides will be keen to set the record straight here this Sunday lunchtime at the BBBank Wildpark.
Looking at Karlsruher first and they were dealt a particularly heavy 5-0 thrashing away from home at the hands of Paderborn so they will no doubt be keen to open their account in this first home game of the campaign.
Karlsruher finished in 12th place on the 2. Bundesliga ladder at the end of last season although they did possess a useful nine-point buffer over third from bottom side, Dynamo Dresden, and the hosts will be keen to assert their authority here over newcomers, Magdeburg.
Indeed, Karlsruher produced a solid campaign in the German second tier at home last season as they lost just three of their 17 home games and ended the season with a six-match unbeaten run at their BBBank Wildpark, drawing five and winning one.
Magdeburg achieved automatic promotion from the German 3.Liga at the end of last season in emphatic style as they claimed the third tier title by a significant margin of 14 points ahead of runners-up, Eintracht Braunschweig, and return to 2 Bundesliga after a three season absence.
Magdeburg finished a successful previous campaign with just two defeats in their final 25 games in all competitions which incidentally were both away from home with losses incurred on the road at Viktoria Berlin and Eintracht Braunschweig.
However, the visitors also picked up a total of 19 wins in the process as well, while overall results away from home have also been pretty steady with Magdeburg losing just two of their last 14 outings on the road in all competitions.
The away side have also won their last four away games on the trot as well although it should be noted that the last two victories were collected in pre-season friendlies at Schwarz-Weiss Rehden and Viktoria Berlin respectively.
Magdeburg have won the previous two encounters on the trot against Karlsruher but the tables may well be turned on Sunday lunchtime as Karlsruher look to nake the most of home advantage over their newly promoted visitors.
