St Patrick’s and Dundalk to share the spoils
1705

The Irish top flight action continues on Friday evening and features a top four clash in the Premier Division between 4th placed St Patrick’s and their 2nd placed visitors, Dundalk, when the two teams meet at Richmond Park with a valuable three points up for grabs.

Recent results for the hosts, St Patrick’s though have been something of a mixed bag as they have managed to register just three wins out of their last nine matches overall, with victories picked up against Bohemians, UCD and Drogheda United.

However, St Patrick’s have been unable to capitalise on these recent victories by putting a decent unbeaten run together. The hosts have also been involved in three draws along with being handed three defeats as well.

Inconsistency is therefore rife where St Pat’s have been concerned and with just four home wins from their last nine games at Richmond Park, there are no guarantees of all three points on Friday night either.

Having scored in 11 of their last 13 home games though, St Patrick’s should at least notch in this encounter.

Onto Dundalk, and the visitors currently sit in 2nd spot and 10 points behind the league leaders, Shamrock Rovers.

But they at least have European qualification in their own hands for next season as they possess a healthy six-point buffer over Friday’s hosts, St Patrick’s.

It’s therefore important that Dundalk do not lose this tussle otherwise they could be facing a very tense and nervous run-in towards the end of the Premier Division season.

But with just one defeat out of their last 11 matches overall, Dundalk look a tough unit to beat at the moment.

Eight of these 11 matches have seen Dundalk pick up maximum points in the domestic top flight but results away from home also suggest that this Friday’s encounter at Richmond Park may not be quite as straightforward as it could be.

Dundalk have managed to win just two of their last 11 outings on the road which came in the form of victories at Derry City and Finn Harps.

But the visitors have also been involved in no fewer than six stalemates within this sequence as well, so the prospects of a draw here on Friday night suddenly appear to be very favourable indeed.
