Bahia set to gain first-leg advantage over Athletico in Copa do Brasil

The first legs of the Copa do Brasil last-16 clashes kick off on Wednesday, with second-tier Bahia hosting Serie A side Athletico Paranaense.

Athletico Paranaense sit third in the top-flight standings – level with fourth-place Atletico Mineiro on 21 points and four points behind second-place Corinthians.

Meanwhile, Bahia find themselves third in Serie B – four points clear of fourth-place Gremio and six points shy of first-place Cruzeiro.

Bahia booked their place in the last 16 of the Copa do Brasil with a penalty shootout victory over Azuriz after the two-legged tie ended 1-1.

Since then, the second-tier side have won four of their seven league matches – suffering three defeats along the way.
