Greece to hold their own at Northern Ireland

This week sees the start of another UEFA Nations League campaign and Thursday evening features this upcoming clash in League C Group 2 between Northern Ireland and Greece at Windsor Park in what could be a tightly fought clash.
Both Northern Ireland and Greece finished in 3rd place of their respective Groups B and C which saw both nations miss out on a place in the upcoming World Cup in Qatar, so they’ll both be eager to put in an improved campaign in the Nations League.
Northern Ireland will also be keen to set the record straight here at Windsor Park following a recent 1-0 defeat on home soil to Hungary which put an end to a previously encouraging three-game unbeaten run.
The Irish had previously won two of these three preceding games with victories over Lithuania and Luxembourg along with a creditable 0-0 draw at home with Italy in the World Cup qualifiers.
But results at home have been a cause for major concern as Northern Ireland have won just one of their last 12 games in all competitions.
Onto Greece and the visitors also finished in 3rd place in their World Cup qualifying Group B behind Spain and Sweden.
But with just two defeats throughout the whole qualifying campaign, Greece can still hold their heads up as improvement on the international scene has been evident.
Although losses to Spain and Sweden put paid to Greece’s World Cup ambitions, they still produced some solid results along the way with wins against Sweden (2-1 at home) and Georgia 2-0 away along with picking up points in draws with Spain, Georgia and Kosovo (home and away).
Form away from has also been steadied as Greece have lost just three of their last 10 outings on the road.
And this is in stark contrast compared to when they last met Northern Ireland back in 2015 when the Greeks had failed to win any of their 13 away games during 2014 and 2015 period.
A 1-0 win away at Romania towards the end of March should give Greece belief for this trip to Windsor Park.
Northern Ireland have lost six of their last 12 home games and they haven’t faced Greece in any competitive match for around seven years so the hosts may well have their work cut out here.
