Derry to Ease Past Finn Harps to Keep the Pressure on Shamrock at the Top
3298

Derry City will welcome Finn Harps to the Ryan McBride Brandywell Stadium as the home side look to edge away at the league leaders Shamrock Rovers with Dundalk right behind them in third able to leap ahead should Derry fail to win this game and they win.

It’s been a topsy-turvy first few months in the League of Ireland Premier Division. The club have won only nine of their 18 games this campaign, which compared to Shamrock's 12, puts them seven points behind just as we got to the midway point in the league season.

The second-placed side can't afford to lose these games anymore, with them already losing four times and drawing their other five fixtures.

On the other hand, with 31 goals scored now for Derry, they have matched Shamrock's league-high tally of 31.

Ruaidhrí Higgins' men are in the worst form they've shown all season long, however, with them not winning a single game throughout May after previously scoring 11 times and conceding one in their last two games of April as they smashed UCD 7-1 and St Patrick's Athletic 4-0.

It now means Derry are on a winless run of five games, with them drawing with Bohemians and St Patrick's Athletic at the start of this month, before losing three on the spin after Shamrock, Dundalk and Sligo Rovers took all three points off them.

This is also the last game for two weeks as a result of the international break, and with Shamrock meeting with sixth-placed Shelbourne, it's vital Derry do not drop points here in order to stay within the realms of a title race.

As for Finn Harps, it's been a disastrous time for them recently. They too have failed to win a single game in May, and worse yet in contrast to Derry's form, Ollie Horgan's side have lost all five games, conceded eight times, scored only twice within this period.

And even registered a 1-0 home defeat to bottom-placed UCD - this was UCD’s one and only win of their 17 games to date this campaign.

The loss to UCD also saw them claw the gap back to two points in the battle down between the bottom two sides, as it does look as if those two will be battling themselves to stay away from the 10th-placed spot.

However, with five wins on the bounce and 19 goals let in from 17 games, there’s little hope for Finn Harps in this game.

Forebet predicts a game of over 2.5 goals and a win for Derry once more.
