Independiente del Valle and América Mineiro will meet this Wednesday in the final matchup of their Copa Libertadores group stage campaign with the away side heading into this one without a hope of making it into the next round just as Independiente look to edge past Deportes Tolima in the table.
Independiente currently sit in third within Group D of the competition, and they must win here if they are to get ahead of Deportes Tolima and into the next round of the tournament.
The club are currently three points adrift of the automatic advancement stage in the competition, and as of now, will be heading into the Copa Sudamericana.
So far, the LigaPro side have won only one of their five fixtures in the Libertadores, losing two and drawing the other two games.
At the same time, this has seen them score a lacklustre effort of just six goals, and concede an alarming seven. Either way, they’re far from the favourites to win the Libertadores, but will still fancy themselves with an outside chance if Tolima lose to Atletico Mineiro.
The Ecuadorian side are also up into third in the LigaPro table now too, as they have won eight of their 14 fixtures to date in the competition, losing only four.
In fact, they sit just a point adrift of league leaders, Barcelona SC, and with their 11 goals conceded across the 14 games, they boast of the best defensive record in the competition.
They are, however, coming off the back two defeats on the spin, with them losing this time last week to Atletico Mineiro in the Libertadores, before they were defeated at home by Mushuc Runa in LigaPro. Now, they must simply win if they are to have any hope of reviving their continental dreams.
As for America Mineiro, they two are winless in recent times as they lost to Coritiba in the league, before a draw with Tolima on the continent and a draw with Botafogo in the league too.
Their last taste of victory, ironically, was to their group leaders on the domestic front, as they beat Mineiro in the league.
Given how poor Mineiro have been in this season’s competition, it’s hard to see them winning. Forebet predicts a narrow victory for the home side here, and for the game to see under 2.5 goals as Mineiro’s Copa Libertadores and Copa Sudamericana hopes disappear for the season.
