Burgos CF vs Girona FC - 29/05/2022
2818
Girona will be aiming to hold onto a play-off spot when they face Burgos at the Estadio El Plantio on Sunday – the final day of the Spanish Segunda Division season.
As it stands, Girona find themselves in fifth place – two points inside the top six. If they lose and seventh-place Real Oviedo win, they will drop out of the play-off spots.
On the flip side, Burgos sit tenth. The highest they can finish is ninth, but they could finish as low as fourteenth if results go against them.
It’s fair to say that Burgos have endured something of an indifferent campaign, having registered 15 wins, nine draws and 17 losses.
Only six teams have suffered more defeats than Burgos this season, while only three sides have racked up fewer draws.
That said, Burgos have one of the best defensive records in the division – with only three teams conceding fewer goals this term.
Burgos ended a four-game winless run with a 1-0 victory over Malaga last time out. Still, they have managed to win just two of their past eight outings.
As for Girona, they have recorded 20 wins, seven draws and 14 losses this season. Although automatic promotion is out of reach, they are expected to secure a play-off berth.
Girona have netted 57 goals this term – 16 more than Burgos – meaning they are fifth-highest scorers in the division.
Remarkably, Girona’s last draw came all the way back in February. Since then, they have registered eight wins and four losses.
It is worth noting that Girona have lost four of their previous seven outings. They will be eager to rediscover their best form on Sunday.
Head-to-head: Given that Burgos was founded only 36 years ago, they have faced Girona on just one previous occasion.
Girona won the reverse fixture 3-1 back in December, with Christian Stuani bagging a brace on home soil.
Team news: Pablo Valcarce has been Burgos’ biggest threat this season, notching ten goals and six assists across all competitions.
As for Girona, Christian Stuani is one of three players on 20 goals atop the Golden Boot leaderboard. Can he claim the award on the final day of the season?
While Burgos have nothing left to play for this season, Girona will be desperate to claim all three points on Sunday to secure spot in the play-offs.
With that in mind, Forebet predicts that Girona will score over 1.5 goals on their way to seeing off Burgos.
