As we head into the final weekend of the 2021-22 La Liga season, Elche and Getafe are two of five teams who could finish in the third and final relegation spot.

The two sides clash at the Estadio Martinez Valero on Sunday afternoon, with both teams needing a single point to secure their safety.

Fourteenth-place Getafe and fifteenth-place Elche are locked on 39 points – three points clear of the bottom three.

Unfortunately for Elche, they come into Sunday’s showdown on a three-game losing streak following defeats to Cadiz, Atletico Madrid, and Celta Vigo.

Not only have Elche lost each of their previous three outings, but they have also failed to score a goal during that period.

When you look at the bigger picture, Elche have lost six of their last nine league games. Worse still, they have lost nine of their previous 14.

Given that Elche have managed to win just one of their past six home matches in all competitions, claiming all three points won’t be easy on Sunday.

That said, Getafe have only won two of their last 23 away games across all competitions. That tells you everything you need to know about their struggles on the road.

Although Getafe are enjoying a five-match unbeaten run, it is worth noting that they have drawn each of their previous four outings – including three goalless draws.

You probably won't be surprised to learn that only one team – Sevilla – have registered more La Liga draws than Getafe this season.

Having netted a measly 32 goals in 37 games, Getafe are also the second-lowest scorers in La Liga this term.

Head-to-head: Elche have only managed to win two of their previous 15 meetings with Getafe across all competitions.

It is worth pointing out, however, that eight of the past 14 encounters between Elche and Getafe have ended all square.

Team news: Elche have no fresh injury concerns ahead of Sunday’s clash, meaning head coach Francisco has a full-strength squad at his disposal.

As for Getafe, they will be without injured striker Jaime Mata this weekend as he continues to recover from a shoulder issue.

Given that both Elche and Getafe need a point to avoid relegation, they should be happy to settle for a draw on Sunday.

Forebet predicts that Elche and Getafe will play out a low-scoring draw the Estadio Martinez Valero, cementing their top-flight status for another season.
