Espanyol and Valencia set for stalemate

It’s also the penultimate round of matches in the Spanish top flight this weekend as well as the battle for European spots and tussles to avoid relegation intensifies.

Аnd this weekend also features this upcoming clash between Espanyol and Valencia at the RCDE Stadium with both sides looking to improve their final league positions.

With financial rewards at stake but now safe from the danger of relegation, Espanyol sit in 13th place but with two games remaining of the La Liga season, the hosts have a chance of achieving a top half finish.

However, if they’re to achieve this Espanyol will need to halt a five-match winless run in La Liga as the hosts have suffered four defeats and gained one draw in these five games.

Losses to Atletico Madrid, Rayo Vallecano, Real Madrid and Alaves have pegged Espanyol back in recent weeks.

Form and results on home soil though at their RCDE Stadium will give Espanyol reason to be confident about their chances on Saturday night as the hosts have lost just three out of their last 16 home games.

Valencia sit in a more respectable mid-table position of 10th place in the La Liga standings but with a total of 15 points separating them from 6th placed Real Sociedad and just two games remaining of this season’s La Liga campaign, there’s no chance of the visitors claiming a European spot this term.

Similar to their hosts, Espanyol, Valencia have also found the going tough in the domestic top flight in recent times.

The visitors have failed to win any of their last seven matches overall, being involved in four draws and also losing the other three games as well.

Points picked up in draws with Cadiz, Rayo Vallecano, Levante and Athletic Bilbao have been overshadowed by defeats to Osasuna, Villarreal and Real Betis, while on the road, Valencia have managed to pick up just two wins out of their last nine outings on their travels.

Three of their last five away games have also seen Valencia involved in stalemates and although they picked up welcome wins on the road at Mallorca and Elche, the fact that they also suffered four defeats within this period as well may see Valencia happy to settle for a point in this clash.
