Saturday brings us action from the French top flight and this upcoming clash between Nice and Lille at the Allianz Riviera with Nice looking to take all three points as they bid for the Champions League qualifier spot.
Nice currently sit in 4th place but with just two games remaining of this season’s Ligue 1 campaign, the hosts are just two points behind the 3rd placed incumbents, Monaco, ahead of this Saturday’s clash with Lille.
Nice will also be going in search of a fourth consecutive win in the French top flight following previous victories over Troyes, Bordeaux and St Etienne respectively, and the hosts will be desperate to keep this late surge going on Saturday night as well.
Form and results have also picked up in recent times for Nice who have put together a solid looking six-match unbeaten run in Ligue 1 which consists of five wins and a draw.
The hosts has picked up 16 points out of the possible 18 on offer on home soil of late.
In addition, Nice hammered Lille 4-0 away from home in the previous encounter this season.
It’s been a season to forget for last season’s Ligue 1 title winners, Lille, as a very disappointing campaign this time around sees the visitors sit in a mediocre mid-table position of 10th place in the French top flight with nothing left to play for.
There’s a real danger that teams with little to play for seemingly switch off and this could certainly be the case amongst the Lille camp.
The visitors have managed to register just one win out of their last seven matches overall in Ligue 1, that being a 1-0 home win against Strasbourg.
However, four defeats in their last five games tells its own story as Lille have simply folded and suffered defeats against Lens, Reims, Troyes and Monaco in recent weeks.
And they look to have their work cut out if they’re to match the intensity that their hosts, Nice, are expected to have this weekend as they chase a potential Champions League qualifier spot.
Lille’s recent form is in stark contrast to earlier in the season as the visitors had been unbeaten in their preceding eight games but they’ve been unable to sustain that form of late.
Nice should therefore take the spoils here.
