This Sunday sees further action from the Italian top flight and this upcoming Serie A clash between lowly Cagliari and high-flying Inter Milan when the two teams meet at the Unipol Domus ground with both teams needing all three points to boost their respective situations at either end of the table.
Cagliari sit third from bottom in the domestic top flight but they trail Salernitana and possible safety by just a single point ahead of this weekend’s action in Serie A but the hosts look to have a mountain to climb this Sunday against Inter Milan.
Cagliari’s situation has become increasingly precarious as the hosts have managed to capture just one win from their last nine matches overall in Serie A, which came in the form of a 1-0 home win against Sassuolo.
But seven defeats within this period have dumped the hosts in the bottom three.
Having picked up just three home wins in total so far this season at their Unipol Domus ground, Cagliari are expected to have their work cut out as they seek some sort of result in order to keep in touch with the teams above them.
By contrast, Inter Milan sit in 2nd place and just two points behind their fierce rivals, AC Milan, thanks to winning six of their last seven matches overall in the Italian top flight which includes wins on the road at Juventus, Spezia and Udinese.
However, although Inter Milan have lost just two matches on their travels all season to date.
The visitors have not had things all their own way as they’ve been held to four draws within their last eight games away from home.
And although they’ve registered three victories within this eight-game sequence, they also suffered a surprise 2-1 loss at Bologna as well.
That said, Inter Milan obviously still remain firm favourites for the points against Cagliari whom they’ll be eyeing off all three points against in their bid to overhaul AC Milan at the summit of the Serie A table by the end of this weekend.
The bigger picture shows Inter Milan have lost just three out of their last 29 games on their travels along with winning five out of the last six meetings against Cagliari as well.
