Athletic Club’s European Hopes to Slip Away With a Draw Against Valencia
1768

Athletic Bilbao will look to keep their European hopes alive when they meet with Valencia at San Mames as they aim to extend their excellent two-game winning run with Valencia merely aiming to stay inside the top 10.

José Bordalás' men are in tatters right now and with them not having tasted victory since the middle of March, it seems as if fans are just waiting for the curtain to close on another underwhelming season. They beat Elche that day, but this is their only win in over two months.

Struggles, Real Vallecano and Cadiz, took a point off them shortly after the Elche win, before a torrid display against Osasuna delivered yet another defeat.

Villarreal would come next, and losing to Unai Emery's men here all but ended their hopes of getting into Europe via the league positions.

Valencia soon after met with Real Betis in the Copa del Rey final, and it looked as if something could be salvaged from a dreadful season with a victory in the final.

Betis would beat them on penalties, however, and with Levante drawing with them last time out, they're one of the most out-of-form teams in the top half of La Liga now.

Valencia are in 10th after this poor run, and with there being just 12 points left on the table, it's impossible for them to make the Europa League spot in fifth, and they can't even end up in sixth to finish in a Europa Conference League spot, with Real Sociedad being 13 points clear.

Bilbao, however, still have everything to play for as they're only five points adrift of Sociedad in sixth, and with Villarreal only a point clear of them in seventh, they can still achieve their European dream if they continue this excellent form.

Such form has seen them beat Cadiz 3-2 despite a late flurry for their opposition, with Marcelino García Toral's men then edging past Atletico Madrid 2-0 shortly after. Bizarrely, Bilbao won the game by two own goals.

Forebet predicts this game to be a close one and a draw is expected here with the game set to see under 2.5 goals.
