Liverpool must win versus Tottenham to keep PL title dream alive

Liverpool are just one point behind Manchester City in the Premier League table. On Saturday night, the Reds could move back into first place with a win or draw against Tottenham Hotspur at Anfield.

The Reds drew 2-2 at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium earlier this season. Had Liverpool not dropped two points, they would be ahead of Manchester City in the table right now.

Tottenham go into the fixture in fifth place and unbeaten in five of their last six Premier League matches. Spurs are chasing the top four and need to win against Liverpool to keep pace with fourth-place Arsenal.

Spurs are two points behind Arsenal in the table. A win over Liverpool could send Tottenham into fourth place. A loss could allow Arsenal to open the gap in the race for the top four.

Liverpool are the Premier League’s form team. They picked up 16 points from the last 18 points on offer in the league. Their last three games all finished as wins. The Reds outscored their last six opponents 13-2.

Tottenham are in nearly as good of form as Liverpool. Antonio Conte’s team took 13 points from the last 18 points available in the league. Spurs are coming off of a 3-1 home win over Leicester City. They scored 15 goals and conceded four goals across the last six games.

Liverpool qualified for the Champions League final on Tuesday night with a 3-2 win over Villarreal in the semifinal second leg in Spain. Jurgen Klopp will likely rotate the side. Liverpool started the game versus Villarreal in poor form, conceding two early goals.

Klopp’s team has to avoid conceding early goals as Spurs won’t be as easy to score against. Luis Diaz could start the match with Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah in attack. The trio have been brilliant when played together.

Joel Matip and Jordan Henderson are likely to start versus Spurs. Henderson did not start against Villarreal and Matip was rested with Ibrahima Konate starting. Roberto Firmino is the only player ruled out through injury.

Conte has four names on the injury list as Oliver Skipp, Sergio Reguilon, Matt Doherty, and Japhet Tanganga are all ruled out through injury.

Liverpool are unbeaten in their last nine games versus Spurs in all competitions. The Reds won seven of those games. Liverpool desperately need to win to keep pace with Man City.

A victory over Spurs would send Liverpool into first place. The Reds should narrowly defeat Spurs by a score of 2-1 to keep their title dream alive.
