Burnley tipped to enhance Premier League survival bid with draw against Aston Villa

Burnley will be looking to move further clear of the Premier League relegation zone when they welcome Aston Villa to Turf Moor on Saturday afternoon.

Thanks to an upturn under interim manager Michael Jackson, the Clarets find themselves two points clear of the bottom three with four matches remaining.

As for Aston Villa, they occupy thirteenth place. Steven Gerrard’s side are six points ahead of sixteenth-place Burnley and eight points outside the drop zone.

Burnley secured a dramatic late victory over Watford last time out. Trailing 1-0 with seven minutes of normal time left, goals from Jack Cork and Josh Brownhill turned the game on its head.

The Clarets have now won each of their last three Premier League outings, having also dispatched Southampton (2-0) and Wolves (1-0) in April.

Thanks to a 1-1 draw with West Ham earlier this month, Burnley head into Saturday’s clash on a four-game unbeaten streak.

It is also worth noting that Burnley have lost just one of their last six matches, picking up four wins and one draw along the way.

Not so long ago, it looked as if Burnley were destined for relegation. Thanks to a spirited turnaround, they have given themselves a fighting chance of avoiding the drop.

Meanwhile, Aston Villa claimed a 2-0 win against Norwich City last weekend – relegating the Canaries in the process.

That victory ended a run of five games without a win for the Villains. Following four straight losses to West Ham, Arsenal, Wolves and Tottenham, they drew with Leicester before beating Norwich.

Although Villa have made improvements under Gerrard, there is no hiding that fact that they have won just four of their past 12 Premier League outings.

On a brighter note, Aston Villa have kept five clean sheets across their previous nine Premier League matches.

Head-to-head: Villa have won just one of their last six Premier League meetings with Burnley, recording three draws and two losses along the way.

Three of the past four encounters have produced over 2.5 goals, with Burnley beating Villa 3-2 in the reverse fixture back in January.

Team news: Burnley are currently without Ben Mee, Johann Berg Gudmundsson, Ashley Westwood and Jay Rodriguez through injury.

On the flip side, Aston Villa will be without the injured trio of Morgan Sanson, Leon Bailey and Kortney Hause this weekend.

Although Villa find themselves six points ahead of Burnley, the Clarets have made vast improvements in recent weeks.

For that reason, Forebet predicts that Burnley will hold Aston Villa to a low-scoring draw on Saturday – enhancing their survival bid in the process.
