Middlesbrough to pick up vital win over Cardiff
Middlesbrough vs Cardiff City - 27/04/2022

It’s make or break time for Middlesbrough as they prepare for Wednesday night’s clash against Cardiff City at the Riverside Stadium as Boro look to reduce the existing five-point deficit that they trail Sheffield United by here.
It’s now five matches without a win in the Championship for Chris Wilder’s Middlesbrough side who have now slipped out of the play-off pack and down to 9th place after three defeats and two draws.
Losses to Fulham, Hull City and Huddersfield Town have not only damaged Boro’s chances of a top six finish in the English second tier but all three of these defeats were incurred on home soil at their Riverside Stadium so it’s now crunch time for the north-east club.
Following an impressive eight wins on the trot at home, Boro have slumped to three defeats on the trot so it’s now up to Wilder to rally his troops for one final push.
And having registered a 2-0 win away at Cardiff City in the earlier corresponding fixture, Boro may just hold the edge once more on Wednesday night.
Although Cardiff City currently occupy 19th place in the Championship table, The Bluebirds possess a comfortable 15-point cushion above the relegation zone so there’s no danger of them dropping into the bottom three this season.
Cardiff City have been saved by the fact that both Reading and Derby County received points deductions before the season began and despite recording wins against Derby County, QPR, Stoke City and Reading, Cardiff have picked up just these four wins out of their last 12 matches overall.
In addition, Cardiff City have lost their last three league matches on the trot in the Championship following losses incurred against Hull City, Luton Town and Sheffield United respectively, while the bigger picture on the road shows that the Welsh outfit have registered just three away wins out of their last 11 outings on the road.
Even worse is the fact that Cardiff City have won just five out of their last 18 matches away from home in the Championship and with very little left to play for here on Wednesday night.
Cardiff may not be able to match Middlesbrough’s desperate desire for all three points in this encounter on Teesside.
