Sevilla Continue Hunt for Champions League Football with Win Over Cadiz

The race is on for the top four in Spain and on Friday the 29th of April we have a meeting between Sevilla and Cádiz, which is crucial for Champions League qualification. The game will be played at Estadio Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán and the visitors also have something big to play for as they are just 1 point off the relegation zone.

Sevilla come into the match having recorded a 3-2 victory at Levante last weekend. Sevilla were 2-1 up at half-time and made sure of the points with a third goal in the 82nd minute although there were a nervous few minutes at the end of the match following a second goal scored by Levante.

That result means Sevilla have won only 2 of their 7 most recent fixtures in all competitions. The other victory came at home against Granada and there have been defeats in the league to Barcelona away and Real Madrid at home.

Sevilla were also eliminated from the Europa League following a 2-0 loss at West Ham United after extra time.

Home form in La Liga shows that despite the recent 3-2 loss to Real Madrid, Sevilla are tough to beat. They are undefeated in 17 of their last 18 home La Liga fixtures and have scored 2 or more goals in 4 of their last 5 when playing on home soil. Both teams have scored in 3 of Sevilla’s 4 most recent home La Liga games.

Cádiz make the trip to the Estadio Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán on the back of a 3-2 home defeat at the hands of Athletic Club. Cádiz were poor in the first half and found themselves 3-0 down at the interval.

The performance was improved in the second half and Cádiz scored twice but could not do enough to get an equaliser.

That result means Cádiz have won 1 of their 4 most recent matches, all of which have come in La Liga. The win was an impressive 1-0 victory at Barcelona but there have been defeats at home against Real Betis and Athletic Club plus a draw at Valencia.

Trends show Cádiz have achieved just 6 wins in their last 36 La Liga games, which is a poor record. They have won only 2 of their last 10 away league fixtures and have failed to score a goal in 4 of their last 8 on the road.

Looking ahead to the team news and Sevilla have four players on the treatment table, with Anthony Martial, Karim Rekik, Fernando, and Suso unlikely to feature.

Cádiz have three players of their own who could be unavailable due to injury, with Carcelen Valencia, Varazdat Haroyan, and Florin Andone all struggling for fitness.

Both teams need the points for different reasons but Sevilla must come into this match as the overwhelming favourites to win. They are strong at home and should score a few goals plus keep a clean sheet on their way to maximum points.
