Preston North End to extend Blackburn Rovers abysmal run of form
4681

Blackburn Rovers are three points off of the final Championship promotion playoff place with three matches to go. Since February Blackburn have slowly drifted out of the top six and are now unlikely to qualify for the promotion playoffs.

Preston North End will host Blackburn on Monday night at Deepdale with the aim of ending Rovers’ chances of making the postseason. The Lilywhites are not mathematically out of the running for the top six, but it is highly unlikely – just like Blackburn – that they will finish in the playoff positions.

Blackburn are on a run of five straight losses without a win. Rovers lost their last two Championship matches and are only close to the promotion playoffs due to the lack of form from the teams slightly ahead of them.

Tony Mowbray’s side took an abysmal five points from the last six matches in the league. Goals were scarce for Blackburn as just seven were tallied while the defence allowed eight to opponents.

Preston were slightly better over the course of their last six matches in the Championship. They took seven points from the last 18 points available to them.

Like Blackburn Rovers, Preston’s goalscoring was poor in the last six matches. The Lilywhites scored just four goals while conceding 10 to opponents. Preston were beaten 3-0 by Fulham last time out.

In the reverse fixture, Blackburn Rovers claimed a 1-0 win thanks to a goal from Ben Brereton in the second half. Despite the win, Preston have a better head-to-head record versus Blackburn across the teams’ last 10 meetings in all competitions.

Preston’s record across the last 10 matches with Blackburn is 6W-2D-2L. Seven of the last 10 matches between the clubs finished with over 2.5 goals scored and seven of those 10 matches saw both teams score.

Blackburn manager Mowbray could be without Reda Khadra and Ian Poveda due to injury. Bradley Dack suffered a back injury in the team’s pregame warm-up versus Stoke City last weekend. He could return as the injury was deemed minor.

Preston manager Ryan Lowe could be without the forward duo of Tom Barkhuizen and Isaiah Brown. Both are nearing returns to full fitness and could make the squad on Monday night.

The Lilywhites have a strong head-to-head record against Blackburn Rovers. With Rovers struggling, failing to win their last five games, Preston should claim a win this weekend.

Two of Preston’s last six wins over Blackburn were by a 2-1 score. The Lilywhites should post another 2-1 win versus Rovers.
