Can Burnley move out of the relegation zone with a win over Wolverhampton Wanderers?
6397

Burnley could make the great escape from the Premier League relegation zone after sacking manager Sean Dyche.

Dyche was the Premier League’s longest-serving manager until being dismissed a week ago. Mike Jackson has been installed as caretaker and in midweek, he led the Clarets to an impressive 2-0 win over Southampton at Turf Moor.

Now, Burnley host Wolverhampton Wanderers on Sunday with the opportunity to move out of the bottom three. The Clarets are one point behind Everton in the race for safety. The Toffees visit Liverpool on Sunday evening, just a few hours after Burnley host Wolves.

Wolverhampton are a solid upper midtable team heading into Sunday’s clash at Turf Moor. Bruno Lage’s team is eighth in the league standings with 49 points from 32 matches. A maximum of nine Premier League teams could qualify for Europe.

If Wolverhampton can finish in eighth place, they would likely make the Europa Conference League for next season. Wolves are just three points off of seventh-place West Ham and five points away from sixth-place Manchester United.

Burnley are unbeaten in their last two matches in the Premier League. The Clarets are in decent form heading into the game. They took seven points from the last 18 points on offer. Goals are still scarce at Turf Moor as just six were scored across Burnley’s last six games.

Wolves picked up nine points from the last 18 available to them. However, two of their last three matches ended in losses. Wolverhampton are coming off of a 1-0 loss at St. James’ Park against Newcastle.

Wolverhampton Wanderers’ recent road record hasn’t been anything special. Three of the Old Gold’s last four games ended in losses away from Molineux. Meanwhile, Burnley won their last two home games in the league.

Burnley have a strong head-to-head record against Wolverhampton Wanderers in the teams’ last 10 matches in all competitions. The Clarets have a record of 4W-5D-1L. The teams’ reverse fixture this season finished nil-nil.

Jackson is likely to pick the same starting XI that defeated Southampton if those players are fully fit. Johann Berg Gudmundsson, Ashley Westwood, Erik Pieters, and Ben Mee are all ruled out of the game through injury.

Wolverhampton coach Lage will be without Ruben Neves, who is nursing a knee injury. Full-back Ki-Jana Hoever is a major doubt following a knee injury. Raul Jimenez will miss out as he serves a suspension. Daniel Podence could be available following an injury.

Burnley are on a good run of form and have a strong head-to-head against Wolves. Can they move ahead of Everton in the relegation race?
