Girona to Edge Past Sociedad B to Keep up Their Hopes of a La Liga Return

Two sides in completely contrasting areas of the Segunda Division will meet at the Estadi Montilivi this weekend as Girona play hosts to Real Sociedad B as the home side look to give it one more go in their automatic promotion bid.
Girona have had a topsy-turvy time in the top five of the table this season and in a campaign that has seen them go top of the league, drop out of the play-off ranks, and now move back into fifth, they must win here to keep up their hopes of a La Liga return.
Even with a defeat, however, the club will remain in the top six with Oviedo just below them in sixth having to make up a gap of four points on them.
At the same time, however, there is a gap of just a point on Tenerife fourth, and a victory for Girona and they could make their way into the top four.
On the other hand, with a seven-point gap on third and second-placed Almeria being eight points clear of them, Girona must return to winning ways here to have any hope of surpassing these two sides.
The club lost last time around to Real Zaragoza 1-0, as the 11th-placed side delivered their 11th defeat of the campaign - this is the most inside the top 10.
This shouldn't, however, overulel their stunning run of form throughout late February and March. Míchel's men had put together a run of six games without a defeat after their loss to Eibar, which has rocketed them right back into play-off contention, and in the eyes of many, as the favourites to win it.
Results such as a 5-1 thrashing over Ibiza and a 3-1 victory away to Las Palmas came in this time, as they managed to score 13 times and let in only four in.
At the same time, the recent unbeaten run meant they netted their 51st goal from 35 games in the Segunda Division, which is only bettered by third and second in the table.
Sociedad B, however, remain in the bottom three, but are there by only goal difference, as they have scored three fewer goals than Amorebieta with them both on 31 points. A win here could rocket them out of the bottom three, as they have also secured seven wins in the league.
