Lens and Nice set for a stalemate
2423

Nice have fallen off of the pace for Champions League qualification and desperately need a win on Sunday to reignite their hopes of finishing in the Ligue 1 top three.

The Eagles will visit Lens on Sunday seeking to end a three-match winless streak. Lens are 10th in the division and are coming off of a 1-0 loss to Strasbourg last time out. The home side seven points off of the top five and could qualify for Europe if they get hot down the stretch.

Nice are on a four-game winning streak against Lens in all competitions. However, the Eagles recent form has been poor. Nice are currently two points off of the top three, so qualifying for the Champions League is not a lost cause for Christoph Galtier’s team.

Lens took eight points from the last 18 points available in Ligue 1. The Yellow and Red scored just six goals across the last six games while conceding five times.

Nice took nine points from the last six games in Ligue 1. They scored a mere four goals and conceded three times. Galtier’s team are notoriously low scoring. Despite this, Galtier ensures that his teams are stingy in defence.

The Eagles have conceded a mere 24 times, which is the fewest number of goals in the league. They have only scored 40 times in 30 games, however.

Lens have scored 45 goals, which is Ligue 1’s fourth-most goals. They have conceded 40 times in 30 matches.

Nice won the reverse fixture against Lens 2-1. Lens’ Arnaud Kalimuendo-Muinga opened the scoring in the 30th minute, but Nice’s Marin Lemina scored on 63 minutes to level the game. Justin Kluivert scored the winner with 11 minutes left on the clock.

Lens have been strong at home posting a record of 7W-5D-3L. They are +10 in goals at home. Nice’s away record is 8W-3D-4L. They have the second-best away points total in Ligue 1 behind Paris Saint-Germain. However, Nice are winless in four straight away games in the division.

Nice’s goal difference on the road is +12. Only nine goals have been conceded by Nice while 12 have been scored.

Although Nice have an excellent head-to-head record against Lens, the Eagles are not in good form heading into the game. They are winless in four straight away games and Lens should get a point on Sunday.

Lens and Nice should finish in a score draw with under 2.5 goals scored. The point could help Nice in the battle for the top three.
