Angers’ terrible run of form to continue versus Lille

Angers lost eight of their last nine games in Ligue 1 ahead of this weekend’s visit from seventh-place Lille. The Black and White are 14th in the Ligue 1 standings and just five points ahead of the relegation-playoff place.

Lille are in the race for the final Championship League qualification place. Just a few weeks ago, it would have been unrealistic to consider Lille qualifying for the Champions League tournament for next season.

However, a great run of form for Les Dogues has them on the verge of the top three.

Les Dogues went unbeaten in their last six Ligue 1 matches. Six points now separate Lille from the top three as they chase Rennes for the final Champions League qualification spot.

Angers and Lille drew 1-1 when they met earlier this season. Tiago Djalo scored on 27 minutes for Lille but the goal was cancelled out by Angers’ Azzedine Ounahi. Lille’s head-to-head record versus Angers in the teams’ last 10 meetings is 4W-2D-4L.

Lille are on a two-match winning streak against Angers at the Raymond Kopa Stadium. Les Dogues are aiming for a third straight win away at Angers this weekend.

Les Dogues are in good form on the road heading into the game this weekend. Lille won their last three away matches. They have a record of 6W-4D-5L on the road with 19 goals for and 19 against.

Angers have a home record of 6W-1D-8L. The Black and White have a goal difference of –2 with 16 goals for and 18 goals against. Angers have conceded the fifth-most goals with 44. They have scored the seventh-fewest goals with 34.

Lille are not a high-scoring team. Just 38 goals have been tallied by Les Dogues. However, Lille have held teams with a strong defence in recent matches. Lille have kept six straight clean sheets in Ligue 1.

Angers coach Gérald Baticle has two players on the injury list going into the game this weekend. Nabil Bentaleb is a doubt following an illness. Forward Jimmy Cabot is also a doubt to play. He has an ankle injury.

Lille coach Jocelyn Gourvennec will be without forward Timothy Weah. The American international is suspended for the game. Goalkeeper Ivo Grbic is a major doubt following a collarbone injury. Defender Sven Botman is also a doubt following a muscle injury.

These teams finished 1-1 earlier in the season, but since then, Lille have improved greatly. Meanwhile, Angers are struggling with eight losses in their last nine games. Lille should win at full-time with a win to nil.
