Barcelona and Sevilla set for crucial top-three clash

Just three points separate third-place Barcelona and second-place Sevilla as the two sides prepare to go head-to-head at Camp Nou on Sunday night.

Sevilla find themselves nine points behind first-place Real Madrid. With only nine games left this season, it will be extremely difficult for them to snatch the title from Los Blancos.

Meanwhile, Barca sit level with fourth-place Atletico Madrid on 54 points. It is worth noting that Xavi’s side have a game in hand over the rest of the Champions League hopefuls.

The Catalans head into Sunday’s clash on a five-game winning streak in La Liga, having thrashed Real Madrid 4-0 before the international break.

That means they have scored four goals in four of their past five league matches, keeping three clean sheets along the way.

When you look at the bigger picture, Barcelona have avoided defeat in each of their previous 13 La Liga encounters – securing nine wins and four draws in the process.

They have also lost just one of their past 18 league matches, scoring over 2.5 goals on eight occasions during that period.

Given that each of Barca’s previous seven La Liga games have produced over 2.5 goals, Sunday’s showdown is destined to be a high-scoring affair.

As for Sevilla, they are enjoying a lengthy unbeaten streak of their own at the moment – having avoided defeat in each of their last 15 league outings.

That said, they have drawn seven of their previous nine La Liga games. That run has seen their title hopes all but disappear.

Having suffered only two defeats in 29 league encounters, no team has lost fewer matches than Sevilla this season.

It is also worth pointing out that Sevilla boast the best defensive record in the Spanish top flight after conceding a measly 19 goals this term.

Head-to-head: Sevilla have managed to win just one of their past nine meetings with Barcelona across all competitions.

It is also worth noting that four of the previous six matches between Barcelona and Sevilla have ended in a draw.

Team news: Barcelona look set to be without the injured duo of Samuel Umtiti and Sergino Dest on Sunday. Nico Gonzalez is also a doubt due to illness.

On the flip side, Sevilla have defensive midfielders Fernando and Thomas Delaney sidelined through injury – as well as forward Papu Gomez.

This is destined to be a lively encounter between two of the top three teams in the division, as both sides aim to cement their place in the top four.

Forebet predicts that Barcelona and Sevilla will play out a high-scoring draw on Sunday, with both sides scoring over 1.5 goals.
