Huddersfield desperately seeking end to two-game losing streak
4661

Huddersfield’s hopes of qualifying for the Championship promotion playoffs have taken a hit in recent weeks. The Terriers are winless in three straight games and each of their last two fixtures finished as losses.

On Friday night, Huddersfield will usher in the return of the Championship along with Hull City. The Tigers are 20th in the league table with 41 points from 39 games this season in the Championship. Hull City are coming off of a 3-1 loss to Luton Town.

Had Derby County and Reading not been hit by points deductions, Hull City would be in far more danger in terms of relegation.

Hull City picked up seven points from the last 18 points available in the Championship. Goals were difficult to come by as just six were scored by Hull City across their last six matches. The Tigers conceded seven times during that same time span.

Huddersfield are fourth in the league heading into the weekend. Carlos Corberan’s team is locked on 63 points with third-place Luton Town. Six points separate Huddersfield from second-place Bournemouth and the final automatic promotion place.

The Terriers have played three more games than Bournemouth ahead of this weekend’s slate of fixtures. Huddersfield need to win against Hull City to remain in the top six. As it stands, Huddersfield are just four points ahead of seventh-place Middlesbrough.

Huddersfield took 10 points from the last 18 points available, yet they are winless in the last three Championship matches. The Terriers scored nine goals and conceded eight times across the last six games.

Hull City are the Championship’s worst home team this season with 18 points from 19 games. Their last five games in the Championship at home ended in losses. Huddersfield are a strong away side. They have picked up 28 points from 20 away games in the division.

Huddersfield won each of their last three games against Hull City. In the reverse fixture between these sides, Huddersfield won 2-0. Tom Lees scored in the ninth minute and Duane Holmes added a second in the 73rd minute. Hull City tallied more corners with five compared to Huddersfield’s four.

The Terriers may be winless in three straight games, but they are the stronger side in the Championship. The pressure is on Huddersfield to win and remain in the Championship’s promotion playoff places. A win would take Huddersfield into third place until at least Saturday afternoon.

Like the reverse fixture, Huddersfield should tally two goals in a close game with over 2.5 goals scored.
