Salernitana and Torino locked in stalemate

Saturday evening’s action in the Italian top flight features the clash between Salernitana and Torino as the Serie A schedule resumes after the international break when the two teams meet at the Stadio Arechi.

Salernitana still remain hopelessly stranded at the foot of the Serie A table and the hosts find themselves a significant nine points adrift of fourth from bottom club Cagliari and safety ahead of this weekend’s Italian top flight fixtures.

Since recording what seemed to be an unlikely looking 2-1 win away from home at Verona, Salernitana have had to endure another lean period of nine games without a win, losing four of these matches but also picking up points in five draws as well.

However, these points have not been enough to lift Salernitana off the bottom of the division but five draws in their last seven games at least gives the hosts a degree of belief that they may be able to earn a point against Torino.

In addition, Salernitana have drawn each of their last four games on home soil as well, so the draw should be kept onside for this fixture.

Onto Torino and the visitors have made a vast improvement upon last season’s efforts as the away side currently bask in the relative comfort of 11th place in the Serie A standings but they too found life tough going just before the international break.

Torino have failed to win any of their last eight matches overall which consists of four defeats and also four draws, with losses incurred against Udinese, Venezia, Cagliari and Genoa but picking up points in draws with Sassuolo, Juventus, Bologna and Inter Milan.

In particular, the results against Juventus and Inter Milan show Torino may just hold the edge over their upcoming hosts, Salernitana, while two draws out of their last three outings on the road suggest the possibility of a draw here this Saturday as well.

Indeed, Torino have managed to capture just two away wins from their previous 18 games on the road, so the prospects of an away win here at the Stadio Arechi looks a distinct improbability.

With Salernitana having managed just one win at home all season and Torino winning just twice in their last 18 away games, the likelihood of a draw here looks quite favourable.
