Friday’s meeting between Wolverhampton Wanderers and Leeds United could have big ramifications at both ends of the Premier League table.
At the bottom end of the standings, Leeds find themselves in sixteenth place – four points outside the relegation zone.
On the flip side, Wolves occupy seventh place. They are just five points behind fourth-place Arsenal and remain in the hunt for Champions League football.
The Wanderers head into Friday’s clash at Molineux on the back of two straight victories in the Premier League.
After thrashing Watford 4-0 last week, Bruno Lage’s men beat Everton 1-0 on Saturday – notching their second successive clean sheet in the process.
Not only have Wolves won four of their last seven Premier League outings, but they have also won seven of their previous 11.
On top of that, Lage’s side boast the fourth-best defensive record in the division – having conceded just 23 goals in 29 games this term.
By contrast, Leeds have the worst defensive record in the Premier League. They have conceded 65 goals this season, meaning they are conceding at a rate of 2.2 goals per game.
Leeds head to the Black Country on the back of a much-needed victory over Norwich City, thanks to Joe Gelhardt 94th-minute winner on Sunday.
That win ended a run of six straight losses and also ended an eight-match winless streak in the Premier League.
Not only have Leeds drawn a blank in four of their last five Premier League outings, but they have also failed to score in six of their previous nine.
Head-to-head: Wolves are unbeaten in this fixture since Leeds returned to the Premier League, recording two wins and a draw against the Yorkshire club.
Leeds have failed to win any of their past six meetings with Wolves across all competitions, suffering five defeats in the process.
Team news: Wolves are currently without the full-back duo of Nelson Semedo and Ki-Jana Hoever through injury. Forward Hwang Hee-chan is also a doubt for Friday’s clash.
As for Leeds, Liam Cooper, Kalvin Phillips, Leo Furh Hjelde, Tyler Roberts and Junior Firpo are all sidelined due to injury.
While Wolves boast one of the best defensive records in the division, Leeds have conceded more goals than any other side. That is not good news for Friday’s visitors.
Forebet predicts that Wolves will secure a shutout victory over Leeds. The hosts are also expected to score over 2.5 goals.
