Fiorentina are blowing hot and cold in the Serie A standings. La Viola are eighth ahead of the trip to Milan on Saturday. Just three points separate Vincenzo Italiano’s team from the top five. If Fiorentina can catch fire once more, they can qualify for the Europa League.
La Viola are unbeaten in back-to-back Serie A games ahead of playing Inter Milan. A 1-1 draw with Hellas Verona was followed by a 1-0 win over Bologna. Despite selling Dusan Vlahovic in January, Fiorentina have a new cult hero in the form of Krzysztof Piatek.
On loan from Hertha Berlin, Piatek has three goals in seven Serie A games for Fiorentina. Piatek should lead the line for Italiano on Saturday.
Fiorentina took 10 points from the last 18 points available in the division. Goals haven’t flowed for La Viola, however. Just six goals were scored across the last six matches while the defence allowed seven to opponents.
Inter Milan picked up a mere six points from the last 18 points available in Serie A. The Nerazzurri scored eight times and conceded six goals to their last six opponents.
Inzaghi’s team is on an 11-match unbeaten run versus Fiorentina in all competitions. Eight of those 11 games saw both teams find the back of the net. Six of the 11 fixtures finished with over 2.5 goals scored. Just two of the 11 matches ended as wins to nil for Inter Milan.
Inter Milan’s Marcelo Brozovic could miss the game with a calf injury. He is listed as a major doubt to make the team. Stefan de Vrij is also a major doubt following a calf injury of his own.
Alexis Sanchez will be pushing for a start in attack. He scored his third goal of the season versus Torino last time out. The goal came in second half stoppage-time to give Inter a share of the spoils and a 1-1 draw.
Italiano will be without Cristiano Biraghi for the game. Biraghi is ruled out until April with a knee injury. Since Vlahovic left as the team’s leading scorer, Biraghi took the mantle as the team’s top goal-getter with four strikes.
Inter Milan may not be in good form, but they have dominated Fiorentina in 11 straight matches. Fiorentina are winless in six straight matches at San Siro versus Inter. The Nerazzurri should win again with over 2.5 goals as both teams scored.
