St Etienne to continue revival against Troyes

St Etienne will play host to Troyes in Friday night’s Ligue 1 clash at their Stade Geoffroy-Guichard with the home side eager to build upon a promising sequence of results in recent weeks.
Despite suffering a horrific run of results earlier in the season which saw St Etienne lose seven league games on the trot in the French top flight between the end of November through to mid-January, St Etienne have since responded in positive fashion.
The subsequent seven matches have seen St Etienne lose just once more while also picking up four vital wins in the process with victories gained over Angers, Montpellier, Clermont and Metz respectively along with picking up valuable points in draws with 5th placed Strasbourg and 6th placed Lille as well.
Although St Etienne still occupy a place in the bottom three (now sitting in the relegation play-off spot), their recent results will be cause for optimism around the camp as they now find themselves just one point adrift of fourth from bottom side, Lorient, and safety.
Troyes will be seeking to collect a third league win on the trot in Ligue 1 when they travel to face St Etienne following back-to-back wins against Bordeaux and Nantes which has lifted the visitors up into 15th place and two points above their Friday night’s hosts as well.
However, their lead over St Etienne is still a slender one and having managed to win just three out of their last 12 matches overall in the domestic top flight, Troyes still aren’t out of the woods yet and face another tough outing to the Stade Geoffroy-Guichard for this encounter.
League wins away from home have also been hard to come by for Troyes as the bigger picture shows that the visitors have collected just four victories from their previous 30 outings on the road, and they’ve also suffered 20 defeats within this period as well, so Troyes are by no means guaranteed a result here on Friday night.
In addition, Troyes have achieved just three clean sheets in these last 30 away games too.
St Etienne have lost just once in their last eight Ligue 1 meetings against Troyes and the hosts’ recent upturn in fortunes may continue on Friday night with a win.
