On Thursday, West Ham United will be looking to overturn a 1-0 deficit when Sevilla visit the London Stadium for the second leg of their UEFA Europa League round of 16 clash.
The Spanish side claimed a 1-0 win in the first leg last week, with Munir El Haddadi scoring the only goal of the game. The hosts dominated possession, too, racking up 22 shots in the process.
Sevilla have won four of their previous eight Europa League titles, triumphing for three straight years between 2014 and 2016 before going all the way again in 2020.
As for the Hammers, this is their debut campaign in the competition. They last featured in the UEFA Cup back in 2006 but failed to make it past the first round.
David Moyes’ men picked up a much-needed victory over Aston Villa on Sunday, beating the Steven Gerrard’s side 2-1.
That means they have lost just one of their previous six Premier League games, picking up three wins and two draws along the way.
The Hammers find themselves sixth in the Premier League table, one point behind fifth-place Manchester United and three points outside the top four.
In the Europa League, they have suffered only two defeats in seven encounters this season – securing four wins and one draw.
On the flip side, Sevilla head into Thursday’s second leg on a mammoth 14-match unbeaten streak in La Liga.
Julen Lopetegui’s side have lost just two of their 28 league games this term, picking up 15 wins and 11 draws in the process. As a result, they remain in contention for the La Liga title.
Sevilla began the season in the Champions League but dropped into the Europa League after winning just one of their six UCL group games.
Still, it’s fair to say that Sevilla thrive at this level. Not only have they won four of the last eight UEL titles, but they have also won six of the previous 16.
Head-to-head: West Ham and Sevilla met for the very first time last week, with Sevilla winning 1-0. There are no other results to assess for this matchup.
Team news: West Ham will be without injured trio Vladimir Coufal, Jarrod Bowen and Angelo Ogbonna. Nikola Vlasic, Michail Antonio and Aaron Cresswell are also doubts.
As for Sevilla, there are question marks over Suso, Karim Rekik, Diego Carlos, Gonzalo Montiel, Papu Gomez and Fernado due to injury.
Following a tight first leg, West Ham and Sevilla look set to play out another close-fought battle on Thursday.
Forebet predicts that West Ham and Sevilla will produce a low-scoring draw in London, sending the Spaniards through to the next round.
