Venezia need unlikely points versus Lazio on Serie A matchday 29

Venezia are in a fight for Serie A survival. The Winged Lions are 18th in the Serie A standings ahead of Monday night’s trip to Rome to play Lazio. Venezia are on a two-match losing streak and three points behind Cagliari in the race for survival.

Lazio are coming off of a 3-0 win against the previously mentioned Cagliari. The Biancocelesti have done enough to hang around the European qualification places, but they have not been Serie A’s most consistent side in the race for Europe.

Maurizio Sarri’s team is seventh in the Serie A standings with two points separating them from fifth-place Roma. Seven points separate Lazio and Champions League qualification. It is unlikely that Lazio will string together the form to catch Juventus in fourth place.

Lazio won 3-1 versus Venezia earlier this season in the reverse Serie A fixture. Pedro opened the scoring in the third minute. Venezia’s Francesco Forte equalised on 30 minutes. The match went into the halftime break level at 1-1.

Francesco Acerbi put Lazio back into the lead after 48 minutes and Luis Alberto sealed the win on 90 minutes for the Biancocelesti. Venezia’s Tanner Tessmann was sent off in the 90th minute as well.

Lazio go into the match on Monday night in good form. Sarri’s team picked up 11 points from the last 18 points available in the division. They outscored their last six opponents 11-3.

Venezia took a mere four points from their last six Serie A matches. They were outscored 13-6. Venezia are on a two-match losing streak going into the game with Lazio.

Sarri’s Lazio have been very good at the Stadio Olimpico. They have posted a record of 7W-4D-2L in Serie A at home. Lazio are +14 in goals on their own patch of turf.

Venezia’s road form has been poor as they have posted a record of 3W-3D-7L on the road. The Winged Lions are –13 in goals on their travels.

Sarri has two players on the Lazio injury list heading into Saturday’s fixture. Midfielder Danilo Cataldi is nursing a hamstring injury and is a doubt to play. Midfielder Manuel Lazzari could make the team following a thigh injury.

Up to eight players could miss out for Venezia. Forward Mattia Aramu is suspended while Gianluca Busio and Luca Lezzerini are both ruled out of action. In addition, Dennis Johansen, Mickael Cruisance, Ethan Ampadu, Domen Crnigoj, and Tyronne Ebuehi are all doubts.

Lazio won 3-1 versus Venezia earlier this season away. The Biancocelesti are much stronger at home and they should once again claim a victory. A correct score of 3-1 should occur as Lazio win with both teams scoring and over 3.5 goals.
