The French Ligue 1 action continues on Sunday and we take a look ahead to this upcoming clash between Strasbourg and Monaco when they meet at the Stade de la Meinau with both teams having designs on a possible top five finish at the end of the season.
Strasbourg currently occupy 5th place on the Ligue 1 ladder but they’ve been unable to really cement their top five spot following three recent draws on the trot although the hosts are unbeaten in their last five games and have suffered just the one defeat in their previous nine matches overall.
That defeat came in the shape of a 4-3 loss away from home at Bordeaux but Strasbourg have also collected five wins during this nine-match period, three of which have been achieved on the road.
Results on home soil at their Stade de la Meinau have also been steady as Strasbourg have lost just two of their last 12 matches in their own backyard and picking up seven wins in the process.
Monaco continue to sit on the fringes of the top five pack in Ligue 1 but the visitors have climbed up into 8th place on the back of last weekend’s 1-0 win away from home at Marseille which will give them a timely boost ahead of Sunday’s clash against Strasbourg.
Overall results have been a bit of a mixed bag where Monaco have been concerned lately but the fact remains that Monaco have lost just three out of their last 15 matches overall in the French top flight.
Six draws within these previous 15 games suggests that it may be prudent to keep the possibility of another stalemate onside for this upcoming encounter especially as three of Monaco’s last seven away games have also resulted in draws.
Having lost just five out of their last 18 games on their travels in the domestic top flight, Monaco are by no means an easy touch on the road and they look to be well-matched against Strasbourg with the possibility of another stalemate looking to be on the cards on Sunday afternoon.
Indeed, the previous meeting between Strasbourg and Monaco towards the end of last November ended with honours even in a 1-1 draw and there appears to be little to separate these two teams this Sunday as well.
