Man Utd and Spurs braced for tense encounter in top-four race
7551

Following the midweek Premier League action, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur go head-to-head at Old Trafford on Saturday.

Spurs find themselves in seventh place – three points outside the top four – after crushing Everton 5-0 on Monday.

Meanwhile, Man Utd occupy fifth place. That means they sit two points clear of Tottenham and one point behind fourth-place Arsenal.

Last time out, Man Utd suffered a humiliating 4-1 thrashing at the hands of arch-rivals Manchester City – emphasizing the gulf between the teams.

That loss means the Red Devils have failed to win any of their last three games across all competitions, having drawn with Atletico Madrid and Watford at the end of February.

It is worth pointing out, however, that Man Utd have avoided defeat in each of their previous six home games in all competitions.

Trends also show that United have lost just ten of their last 60 Premier League matches, meaning they will be confident of getting something from Saturday’s showdown.

On the flip side, Tottenham hammered Everton 5-0 last time out – with Harry Kane bagging a brace. There were also goals for Son Heung-min and Sergio Reguilon.

Spurs have now won three of their past four Premier League outings, having dispatched Man City and Leeds United last month.

That said, Antonio Conte’s men have lost four of their previous seven Premier League games – underlining their inconsistency.

They were also knocked out of the FA Cup by Championship side Middlesbrough earlier this month, making it difficult to predict how they will fare at Old Trafford.

Head-to-head: Man Utd claimed a 3-0 victory at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the reverse fixture back in October.

Tottenham have only managed to win one of their last six Premier League meetings with the Red Devils, suffering four defeats along the way.

Team news: Although Man Utd have no confirmed injury absentees, there are question marks over Cristiano Ronaldo, Raphael Varane, Edinson Cavani and Luke Shaw.

As for Tottenham, they will be without the injured Oliver Skipp on Saturday. Japhet Tanganga and Ryan Sessesgnon are also doubts.

Although Tottenham have secured a number of high-scoring wins of late, Man Utd’s recent record in this fixture is difficult to ignore.

With that in mind, Forebet predicts that Man Utd will edge out Spurs. Both teams are likely to score, but the hosts should come out on top.
